Healthcare Technology Business Evaluates MediaAgility’s Google Cloud Platform based Prototype for Their Infrastructure and Data Analytics Capabilities
The Customer brings together technology and healthcare best practises to deliver high-quality care for patients and a rewarding process for the doctors to efficiently dispense their duties. They were running their infrastructure in legacy systems that hosted their monolithic applications.
Monolithic applications on the legacy system eclipsed collaboration, and restricted the scope and agility of their operations –
- Application workload complexity meant replication and configuration were time-consuming and prone to error
- The system couldn’t support different OS and hypervisors and faced conversion issues
- Duplicate infrastructure and unnecessary software licensing adds to mounting costs
Deploying microservices architecture
The scope was to modernize their existing monolithic applications, containerize them, and to implement API management. MediaAgility successfully re-architectured and re-designed Customer’s applications by migrating the workloads to GCP.
Scalable data warehouse and analytics
The goal was to migrate their data from SQL servers to BigQuery’s highly scalable data warehousing and generate analytics reports. The evaluation successfully ingested 2TB data using DataFlow to BigQuery and built analytics dashboards in Tableau.
The evaluation prototype used a host of various other Cloud products to assess the commercial viability of Google Cloud based architecture and data analytics –
- Google Kubernetes Engine for canary deployment and microservice architecture with minimal effort
- Google Big Query for running high-performance queries for analytics
- Google Cloud Storage for storing the reports and static application content
- Google Cloud Datastore for storing the data
- Google Memcache service for caching data, hence eventually reducing the search response time and serving content quickly to users
The Customer’s multiple gains
Now, the Customer is able to support various OS and hypervisors, eliminate conversion issues, and leverage the benefits of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD). They can also carry reverse replication to on-prem without the need to rebuild systems. The migrated infrastructure was evaluated to be similar or lower than the current cost of the existing infrastructure and data center. CapEx/OpEx have been replaced by pay-for-what-you-use.
