Positiv Television Empowers Their Employees With Google Apps for Work

Positiv Television Group is a large media group which has News and Entertainment channels (Hamar TV, Focus TV, NE TV, NE BANGLA, NE HI FI, HY TV) and one radio station OOOLALA in North East region of India. The company has seven offices across India. Positiv Television Private Limited was established in the year of 2004 and since then it has been India’s leading news channel.

The channels cater to the news and information needs of Hindi, English, Bengali, Urdu, Bhojpuri and all the regional Purbia and North Eastern language audiences. Film and Television Production House PTPL Mayurath Films has so far produced more than 400 telefilms, Video albums and teleserials in the popularly used Northeast regional languages.

A company like Positiv Television, paving its way to rapid growth and success was facing internal issues with their information systems management. These challenges were fast becoming critical and were proving to be a roadblock to the company’s vision, especially the mail system.

The company was using freeware mail system that was proving to be inadequate for collaboration across locations. The management at Positiv TV wanted a robust IT infra that would not only serve as a mode of communication but change the entire functioning of the company. In the media industry, it is important to have a quick and seamless information flow channel. Also, there is absolutely no scope for downtime owing to maintenance or any other factor.

In May 2013, the company decided to turn their messaging IT infra around. They started evaluating all available options in the market. The company wanted a one stop solution to overcome all their existing challenges. The power of Cloud Computing was well understood and appreciated by the company’s leadership. “The decision to adopt the Cloud was a natural one. Agility, speed, anytime – anywhere access is any media company’s mode of survival. We would not have settled for any on-premise, server based solution.” says Mr Naveen Goel, Executive Vice President who heads the technology for the group at Positiv. The management, keeping their employee and customer’s satisfaction in mind decided to go with Google Apps.

They met with MediaAgility, Premier Google For Work partner and after thoroughly examining the value in Google Apps for Work made the shift.

“MediaAgility helped us in reaching the right decision and moved our infrastructure to Google Apps seamlessly.” adds Mr Goel.

For an employee-centric company like Positiv group, employee data management and employee friendly enterprise tools were of prime concern. “A value addition in the company’s operating procedure came in the guise of Google Docs and Drive. Earlier, employees across all locations used to collaborate using excel attachments. Now with Google Docs, communication is streamlined and less cumbersome.”, says Ms Divya Varma, Chief Human Resource Officer. Data backup issues have also been resolved with help of Google Drive.

MediaAgility migrated over 1000 employees to Google Apps for Work for the group. MediaAgility not only showed product value to the company but also smoothly transitioned all it’s employees to Google Apps. The entire switch was perfectly mapped under a project management scope which included strategic and technical deployment of Google Apps within a pre-decided time-frame. The employees of the Positiv group were given onsite and remote user trainings. MediaAgility continues to provide support services to Positiv Television as and when required.

“We do not worry about purchasing anti-virus softwares or downtime anymore. Google Apps has exactly mapped all solutions under one umbrella. All the new features are simply plugged in behind the scenes at no extra cost or time investment from us.”, claims Mr Rajesh Kumar, Head IT.
